Sahip Ata Mosque was founded in 1258 by Sahip Ata, the vizier of Sultan Izzeddin Keykavus II. The portal and mihrap of the old mosque and its convent are intact today. The former original mosque had wooden posts that were supporting a ceiling made ot timber. This type is called "wooden pillared mosque". The name of the architect (Amele Koluk - bin Abdullah) is inscribed in rosettes above a fountain niche on the portal of the mosque. The convent, which has three iwans around an enclosed central space, stands behind the qibla wall of the mosque. It has a separate entrance gate from the street on the east of the mosque. Between the mosque and the convent is a tomb, which was built in 1283 by Sahip Ata for his family .
